Picked up this gorgeous, dramatic floor-length mermaid dress on sale for TEN BUCKS at the Fashion Crimes moving sale.
It looks amazing on my friend, who has the confidence and beauty to pull off such a daring look.
Beautiful as it is, the look is a bit impractical. Not pictured too clearly here is the short train in the back, which makes walking - especially in this messy February weather- a real pain in the mermaid tail.
Reluctantly we both finally admitted that aside from her wedding day or her embarking on a new career as a 1940's torch singer (which she could do - she's got the pipes!), she probably wouldn't get a lot of wear out of that fab gown.
So...what to do?
The mermaid tail had to go. Although it killed me aesthetically, I had to make the cut.
I shortened it to a chic look above the knee, but made sure to maintain the va-va-va-voom hourglass shape which fit my friend to a "T"...or should I say "S"?
Sad as I was to see the tail go, I have to admit this is one mermaid who looks better with legs...
She still looks fabulous, as she does here all dolled up for the opera, and now she can actually wear the dress without tripping over it!
Plus, (for all those mourning the loss of that dramatic bottom sweep) the remnants of the mermaid tail do look awfully like a dramatic mullet skirt...
Hmm, next refashion?
